Braille Ministry

The Birmingham Lutheran Braille Center, established March 4, l984, meets weekly on Tuesdays from 8:30 until 11:00 AM, except during holidays. We are currently imprinting the Gospel of Luke, the Book of Numbers, and three devotional booklets for sight-handicapped people around the world. The production of the books is simple, but it does produce a warm glow in your heart to be able to Bring Light to Those in Darkness. Everyone is invited to join us for a meaningful activity, delicious refreshments, and wonderful fellowship. With a few more volunteers we could reinstate an afternoon session from 12:00 until 2 PM. If you would like to join our group, please call the church office (823-1883) for contact information, or just show up on Tuesday morning and see how much enjoyment can come from serving our Lord.  For more information about Lutheran Braille Workers, Inc. click here.

Meals-on-Wheels

Our congregation participates in Meals-on-Wheels in the Vestavia Hills community. There are five teams of two people who deliver lunches to homebound folks every Monday morning.

Old Fire House Shelter for the Homeless

The Lutheran Church of Vestavia Hills is an active supporter of The Old Fire House Shelter for the Homeless in downtown Birmingham. There are four teams of a half dozen people or more who go to the shelter on the 2nd and 4th Monday of every month to prepare, serve, and clean up after the evening meal. There is also great fellowship among team members and with the homeless men at the shelter.

Helping Hands

Helping Hands is the outreach ministry of The Lutheran Church of Vestavia Hills to people in need in our community and throughout the world. At Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter we collect gifts of food, clothing, toys, and candy to be shared with children and adults who may be in need of a “helping hand.” Helping hands is also the collection site for gifts that are distributed by our Uganda and Nicaragua mission teams. School supplies, toiletries, flip-flops, and medicines are gathered. M&Ms (Money for Missions) are sold, the proceeds of which are used to purchase mosquito nets for children in our extended community in third world countries. Our desire is to be the heart and hands of Jesus to the “least” of his brothers and sisters in his world.
